Eastern Hemlock

Tsuga canadensis

The Eastern Hemlock grows well in shade and is very long lived. The trunk is usually straight and scaly, getting deeply fissured with age.  This hemlock can be used as a specimen, sheared for a hedge or planted for screening.  There are abundant brown cones that hang from the tree. Intolerant of salt.
